Marina Vela, Host of the New Edition of the Base Mini Regatta

The Base Mini FNOB Marina Vela Trophy regatta, the most important of its class this year in the Mediterranean, will set sail on Friday, April 9, to cover 400 miles, departing from Barcelona to the Balearic Islands and then returning to Barcelona, and will feature experienced sailors such as Dídac Costa and Gerard Marín.

From April 5 to 13, the new edition of the Base Mini FNOB Marina Vela Trophy Regatta will take place, organized by Club de Mar Port Olímpic, the Fundació Navegació Oceànica de Barcelona (FNOB), the delegation of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, and with the collaboration of Base Mini Barcelona, Marina Vela Barcelona, and Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita. The regatta will bring together national and international participants, as the Mini Transat will be held next September.

Participants will be based at Marina Vela Barcelona in the days leading up to the departure, which will be on Friday, April 9 at 12:00 PM. Over 5 days, participants will cover 400 miles, departing from Barcelona to pass through the Balearic Islands, including the islands of Dragonera, Cabrera (passing through La Ràpita), Tagomago, and Columbretes.

In this edition, two sailors closely linked to Barcelona and the FNOB will participate. Dídac Costa will compete in his first regatta after his brilliant second participation in the Vendée Globe, the solo non-stop round-the-world race. And Gerard Marín, with two round-the-world races in the Barcelona World Race of 2009 and 2014. Gerard will participate aboard the first Mini 6.50 built at the FNOB Oceanic Base. A Lombard-designed prototype with which Gerard hopes to achieve a good result in the Mini Transat, which will depart from France in September, heading solo to the Caribbean.

Marina Vela Barcelona is thus established as a reference point in supporting ocean sailing. Its commitment is clear to supporting the mini class, serving as a base for training throughout the year, thereby contributing to establishing Barcelona as the largest training center for the mini 6.50 class in the Mediterranean.
