“Marjuin” was the winner in Real Time and in the Short-Handed Crew category, and the FNOB Training Boat in the promotional formula in a race dominated by moderate southwesterly winds.
Jesper Larsen, owner of LAZY DOG, a Grand Soleil 45 from Club Náutic Masnou, raised the coveted trophy yesterday as overall winner of the 3rd edition of the Golden Cup Barcelona Marina Vela regatta. After coming close to achieving it in the first edition in 2020, the team with a majority Danish crew has managed to impose their dominance on this occasion, claiming victory both in the overall classification and in the Full Crew category.
MARJUIN, a Grand Soleil 50 owned by Andorran Pere Roquet from Club Náutico el Balís, sailing in A2 with Toni Planet, claimed victory in Real Time and in the Short-Handed Crew category.
Second place in the Short-Handed Crew category went to ARAL, a Dehler 34 owned by Ferran Teva, also crewed A2 and representing Club Náutico el Balís.
The Short-Handed Crew podium was completed by solo sailor Jaume Mercader from Club Náutico de Premià de Mar, with the X372 ZETA.
The Dutch team YELLOW ROSE, an X35 skippered by Marten Jan Ringers, made things very difficult for the winners, and were ultimately edged out of victory by a narrow margin of 4 minutes and 23 seconds, achieving second place in both the Overall Classification and the Full Crew category, a category in which NIRVANA, a Hanse 470 skippered by José Martín Santiago from Club Náutico Vilanova, claimed third place.
Isidre Martín at the helm of Miraboud, an Imoca 60 training boat of the Barcelona Ocean Sailing Foundation, won the promotional category.
The unfavorable weather conditions on Saturday, October 30, resulted in a postponement and a change of course for the regatta, establishing a Barcelona – Vilanova i la Geltrú – Barcelona circuit of 50.4 nautical miles. The stable southwesterly wind conditions resulted in a tactical race, in which boats that opted for the offshore tack were favored, while those that chose the inshore tack suffered from calms.
The trophy presentation took place on Monday, November 1 at the Marina Vela facilities, with the presence of Meritxell Cornudella, board member of the Catalan Sailing Federation, Eugenia Chechueva, Commercial Director of Marina Vela, and Enrique Curt, Race Director. After the presentation, participants enjoyed an aperitif at the Vellíssima restaurant at Marina Vela.
