In 2022, a new and important regatta in the Mediterranean of the Mini 6,50 Class will debut, which will set sail from our Marina on April 5. There will be more than 800 miles alone and with your participation you will obtain the necessary miles to be able to participate in the Les Sables – Azores regatta, the most important event on the 2022 mini calendar in the Atlantic.
The Solo Med will be held around Barcelona, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community. The proposed route will be divided into two regattas. The first, category C and 160 miles, will depart from Barcelona towards Sa Ràpita, on the east coast of Mallorca. The second regatta, this one of category B, has a route of 650 miles, between the Balearic Islands, the island of Tabarca, the Balearic Islands again, and return to Barcelona leaving Columbretes on the starboard side. This format in two regattas allows participants who do not have a category C regatta in their record, to participate in both and thus be able to access the category B regatta to accumulate more miles.
Again, Marina Vela BArcelona, gives the moorings and the use of its facilities to the fleet, which is expected to be larger than last year in the Mini FNOB Base Regatta. Under a joint agreement with FNOB, the Base Mini Barcelona fleet uses our facilities for training on alternate weekends.
At Marina Vela Barcelona we have always had the strategic objective of collaborating in the promotion of ocean sailing, thus contributing to consolidating Barcelona as the largest training center for the MINI 6,50 class in the Mediterranean.
After the first race of 160 miles, starting at Marina Vela Barcelona and arriving in Sa Rápita, the fleet will prepare in the Mallorcan port for the second, much longer and more technical race. The start of the second regatta, from Sa Ràpita, will take place on Sunday, April 10 at 12:00 p.m., which allows us to anticipate a high participation of the local public. After the proposed route, it is expected that the first Minis, of PROTO category, will arrive in Barcelona around April 17, depending on weather conditions.
The IMOCA Escola of the FNOB will be in charge, one more time, of the work of the accompanying ship, guaranteeing the safety of the fleet throughout the journey. The IMOCA School has a satellite communication system on board for emergencies.
To ensure tracking of the entire fleet, lThe vessels will have a beacon (tracker) on board with a transmission frequency every 30 minutes. In addition to providing security to participants, this system will allow the evolution of the regatta and the classification to be followed in real time on the regatta website.
The format and number of miles, which facilitates participation in Les Sable – Azores – Les Sables, and gives access to a category B regatta to sailors with relatively less experience in a safe environment, allows more than 20 boats to be targeted at the start on April 5.
