The X 46, skippered by Joan Balaguer, with Jordi Garriga as crew, and representing Club de Vela de Blanes, was the overall winner of the 2nd edition of the Golden Cup Barcelona Marina Vela regatta.
Gilolo, a Sunfast 3200, skippered by JC Petit from RCM Barcelona, and Embolic, a Dufour 34 skippered by Ramon Badia from CV Badalona, placed second and third overall.
The regatta started at 10:10 AM on Saturday, September 26, with light northerly winds that shifted towards the west. Shortly before 5 PM, Korrigan rounded the buoy in Blanes in first position. Fifteen minutes later, Nirvana III, a Hanse 470 skippered by José Martín Santiago from CN Vilanova, followed. Approximately 20 minutes after that, the third boat, Apoc Apoc Morenito, an Oyster Lightwave 395 single-handed by Alfonso César Roch from CM Torredembarra, passed, closely followed by the rest of a fairly grouped fleet.
On the return to Barcelona, Nirvana approached Korrigan, threatening its first position, while the rest of the grouped fleet exchanged positions further back on successive upwind tacks dictated by the SW wind. At 9 PM, after a brief calm, the SW wind intensified, disrupting the race situation and causing the withdrawal of Nirvana III, H43 Skipper, Apoc Apoc Morenito, and Harmattan. At 10:49 PM, Korrigan crossed the finish line in front of the Vela Hotel. Gilolo followed at 1:40 AM, and Embolic arrived in third place at 3:32 AM.
After applying the compensated time correction, these same positions were maintained in the overall classification of the 2nd edition of the Golden Cup Barcelona Marina Vela. At 1 PM on Sunday, September 27, the trophy ceremony, reserved for the winners, was held, presided over by Fernando Gaya, Director of Marina Vela, and Enrique Curt, Regatta Director.
Both emphasized the importance of keeping the competitive spirit alive during these challenging times and thanked the sailors for their commitment. Enrique Curt, for his part, gave a special mention to CV Blanes, whose collaboration was essential to implement the course change necessitated by meteorological conditions.
